The Princess of Wales's Traditional Christmas Service of Carols Pays Tribute to Community Volunteers
The Princess of Wales is hosting her yearly Christmas carol concert at the iconic London venue, with guests including royals, celebrities and local heroes who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.
The sizable congregation will hear a selection of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from stars like Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Focusing on Love and Generosity
The focus of the event, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.
Attending the event are a couple named the Cordiners, whose young girl was lost to a brain tumour, and who established a foundation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a terminally ill child.
"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often discreetly and without words, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an profound impact to the lives of others," wrote Catherine in a message before the concert.
A Gradual Return
The Princess of Wales is continuing her own measured re-emergence to the public eye subsequent to her illness and medical care, recently giving her first public speech for two years, in which she talked about recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".
Musical Talent and Access
Attendees entering the Abbey will be entertained by talented youth performers aided by the Future Talent organisation, co-founded by the former royal to widen access to musical tuition.
Carys Wood, aged 18, who plays the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been supported by the trust, with funding assisting with instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "incredible" to be performing at the evening's event.
"Pursuing music is often costly," she stated. She is now enrolled at the prestigious music academy, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to develop their musical skills.
Generations Gathering
Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will also be at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.
Attending the service will be individuals spanning multiple eras.
That will encompass Saphia Turner, aged nine, recipient of a young hero award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to collect donations for community pantries.
Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts
The Abbey has been festooned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.
The musical lineup includes Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "a dream come true."
The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be broadcast on television on December 24th.
